Jenny Sawer's Singing Studio
Welcome to Jenny Sawer's singing studio!
Thank you for taking the time to find out about singing lessons with me. I teach from Pirana Music in Mitchell Monday to Wednesday and at Canberra Girls Grammar Senior School on Thurdays and Fridays.
Jenny currently has a waiting list, but please contact her if you are interested in lessons and she will let you know if she has any cancellations.
I am a classically trained singer with a Bachelor of Music (1st Class Honours) from the Canberra School of Music, ANU. I have been performing for eighteen years and teaching for twelve years. I am interested in many different vocal styles, and I teach classical
and contemporary styles including folk, pop, rock, jazz, blues and music
theatre. I also regularly perform as a soloist and in various groups in different
genres.
Singing is very therapeutic and you will find your confidence levels
and self-awareness will improve from learning to sing. Singing is great for
those who are shy of public speaking and dealing with other work/school
situations that require a strong, confident voice and personality.
I teach teenagers and adults. I usually only accept students age 12
and over. This is negotiable depending on the maturity and situation of a
young person. New students are not expected to audition or even be able to read
music or know any music theory. It is okay if you have no experience with
singing. I work with beginners and advanced singers at an individual pace.
I am an avid researcher and I'm always reading up on vocal techniques
in different vocal styles. I have a particular interest in anatomy and how
the body is involved with singing. I will suggest various books on vocal
technique that you should read, and I can provide lots of tips on vocal health and encourage healthy living to
help you in the development of your instrument - I am a holistic teacher and believe that singers need to learn to be
open and relaxed within their mind and body in order to produce strong,
beautiful sounds.
I have sound equipment in lessons and encourage regular practice with
a microphone, particularly for those students working on contemporary
singing. I also have access to the internet for downloading songs, backing
tracks, sheet music, and so on.
I am always on the lookout for performing opportunities for my
students, including auditions for shows/groups, exams, performances in the
community etc. I encourage regular performances to help students deal with nerves
and improve your skills in becoming a confident, comfortable, talented
performer. I also hold regular workshops and concerts for my students so they have
ongoing goals to work towards.
It is a good idea to commit to at least one term of lessons before
deciding whether to continue or not. Improving your singing voice won't
happen overnight, but it will happen!
Lastly, I should say that I just love to teach and I feel fortunate
to be a part of each of students' musical journey! I look forward to your
call or email!
